Over two decades of powering homes, building trust, and leading the solar revolution — one rooftop at a time.
Founded in La Mesa, California by a small but determined team — Robert Wheat, JT, and our founder — with one mission: deliver a premium customer experience at an affordable price. And they did.
Sara Clay joined as the company's first receptionist — the very first hire. The beginning of a team that would eventually grow to over 200 strong.
The very first SolarTech solar installation was completed in Poway, CA — the first of what would become over 12,000 projects and counting.
Before digital ads and social media, the team built the business the old-fashioned way — Yellow Pages ads, direct mail, radio, TV, and knocking on doors. Lots of doors.
"I've knocked many a door."
Like any new small business, the early years meant finding the right partners and the right employees. The team learned, adapted, and stayed committed to quality — building a reputation that would carry SolarTech for decades.
Around 2015, solar PV truly became a household item. Demand surged and SolarTech's growth took off — the years of groundwork were paying off in a big way.
SolarTech expanded beyond residential with its first commercial solar installation — opening the door to a whole new market and proving the team could deliver at any scale.
SolarTech launched its roofing division — a natural extension of the business. When you're already on the roof, why not offer the best roofing service too?
SolarTech opened its second location — the first step in a multi-market expansion strategy. The opportunity to capture more market share without heavy capital investment proved advantageous for the company's growth.
A third location opened just one year later — proof that the expansion model was working. SolarTech's footprint continued to grow rapidly.
SolarTech crossed state lines for the first time, expanding into Arizona. Taking more market share without heavy capital or infrastructure investment drove the decision — and it paid off.
Team members like Charlene and Grant have been with SolarTech since the very beginning — a testament to the culture and the mission that holds this company together.
SolarTech entered the LA market — one of the largest solar markets in the country. The expansion strategy continued: more market share, smart growth, and the same commitment to quality.
A major website redesign launched in early 2025, giving SolarTech a modern digital experience to match its industry-leading service.
SolarTech adopted its new slogan — a simple statement that captures over two decades of customer-first philosophy in six words.
Building a business on integrity and good work. We can't satisfy everybody, but we can certainly try — and our reputation proves that. This industry has eaten up companies that ran a poor operation or didn't install projects well. We have run an ethical and solid company that grows year over year.
What do we want people to remember most about SolarTech? That we had integrity and acted with genuine care for each individual customer — big or small.
The next 25 years? Continue providing industry-leading quality installations to the marketplace while helping the environment.
